Compare to A Clockwork Orange?

I'm writing a big essay for AP English in the spring and I need to do a compare and contrast essay on two books. I've chosen A Clockwork Orange as the first book but I need a second book to compare it to. But the problem is it has to be at least 50 years earlier than A Clockwork Orange and suggest for possibly a different genre. What are some good novels to chose that are from the 19th century? (Maybe on free will, or government oppression, etc... I've read A Clockwork Orange but I'm deciding to read it again haha) Thanks in advance!
