What frame rates are movies shot at?

Film movies are shot at 24 frames per second, but most people can see the flicker at that rate, so, in the theater, the film projector is set up to open and close the shutter three times for each frame to minimize perceived flicker. I.e., the frame rate is still 24 per second, but the shutter opens and closes 72 times per second.
