My PS2 stops reading the game disc at certain points. How can I fix this?

I've tried to clean it, but that didn't change anything. I even did the scotch-tape thing, sat the PS2 on it's side, and ran diagnostic mode. Also, it's hard to find this game anymore, even though it's not an old game, so please don't suggest that I buy a new one.
