You are contagious until the blisters crust over and should not be in a tanning bed. You could give someone chicken pox. Also exposure to UVA light, like in tanning beds, on recently inflammed skin, like areas of shingles, can cause the skin in that area to get much darker than the surrounding skin. It can take months to years for such pigment to fade. So the recommendation is to avoid UVA exposure, natural or artificial, to newly inflammed skin. Sorry.
