What is the best guitar for hard rock/metal?

Im very glad you mentioned a Les Paul. If you can afford the gibson les paul, go for that, but epiphones are still made by gibson, just a little cheaper. They're still good though, i would definitely go for one of those, you'll get great sound out of it, and i think they would compliment metal well, and they dont look too cheezy.
